To be clear, you can hate these albums. I don’t own opinions on music. Anthony Fantano does. These are just a few personal favorites from this year.
5. RAWR – TAICHU
The debut LP of Argentinean pop girlie, this one’s just pure fun, particularly in the front end. Hot Girl S*** written all over it.
Key tracks: NOCHE DE SATEO, PAYDAY.
4. SAVED! – Reverend Kristen Michael Hayter
An exploration of religious trauma through not a rebuke, but an embrace of it’s iconography and musical ethos, the artist formerly known as Lingua Ignota crafts a compelling follow-up to 2021’s SINNER GET READY.
Key tracks: IDUMEA, THE POOR WAYFARING STRANGER.
3. ANOCHI – GEZAN, Million Wish Collective
Every time an album opens with droning bagpipes, it’s gonna bang. It’s the rules. A one of one kind of record for sure.
Key tracks: Death Penalty Dog, JUST LOVE.
2. Why Does The Earth Give Us People To Love? – Kara Jackson
My first listen to this record was paralyzing. What an irreplicable voice, and such incredibly sobering songwriting.
Key tracks: brain, why does the earth give us people to love?
1. Dogsbody – Model/Actriz
I’m terrified and I can’t stop dancing. No notes.
Key tracks: Mosquito, Crossing Guard (but also it’s transition into Slate is so crispy.)
