We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift

The song, “We are never getting back together” by Taylor Swift is a very iconic song and also a good song to listen to while going through a breakup. Cry as much as you want but when you are finally ready to stop moping around and missing your ex listen to this song. Forget feeling sad about no longer being someone’s girlfriend or boyfriend and just jam out to this song. Scream at the top of your lungs the iconic lyric, “Ah, so he calls me up and he’s like, “I still love you and I’m like, I’m just, I mean this is exhausting, you know?”. You do not need your ex and do not go running back to him or her just because they texted you but instead tell them, “We are never ever, ever getting back together”.

Thank U, Next by Ariana Grande

If you are looking back at all your past relationships and flings and need a song that captures how you are feeling then, “Thank U, Next” is the song for you. All those past relationships and breakups were painful but at the same time each one of them taught you something. You might not realize it until you sing the lyrics, “One taught me love. One taught me patience. And one taught me pain. Now, I’m so amazing”. This song will not have you crying or missing your ex but will have you feeling the exact opposite. After listening to this song it will help give you the strength to say to your ex, “Look what you taught me. And for that, I say, thank you, next”.

I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor

Going through a breakup could make you feel as though you are never going to get through it but that could not be farther from the truth. Listening to, “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor will remind you that you can get through anything and you do not need anyone. This song is also perfect for you if your ex thinks that you cannot live without them and that you will just come running back to them but that is not true. Prove to your ex and most importantly prove to yourself that you can live without that person. When you are ready tell your ex, “I’m not that chained-up little person still in love with you. And so you felt like dropping in and just expect me to be free. Well, now I’m saving all my lovin’ for someone who’s loving me”.

Survivor by Destiny’s Child

If you need another song that will help give you strength then listen to “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child. If you were in a relationship with a toxic person then it is a good thing that relationship is now over. Sing this lyric from the top of your lungs because it is 100% true, “Now that you’re outta my life, I’m so much better”. Listening to this song over and over will help remind you that you can survive this breakup. You may want to punch your ex in the face or tell them off but trust me doing that helps no one but instead just like Destiny’s Child sang, tell them, “Wishin’ you the best, pray that you are blessed”. There may be a moment of weakness where you want to contact your ex but before you give in your emotions remember, “I’m a survivor”.

Stronger by Kelly Clarkson

Going through a breakup is rough and it feels as though your heart is undeniably broken but you are going to get through it and I promise you there is a light at the end of the town. However, if you do not believe that you can get through this rough patch then maybe the song “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” by Kelly Clarkson will convince you. You do not need that person to be happy and although you are hurting do not go running back to that person. Kelly Clarkson even said it herself, “Think that I’d come running back. Baby you don’t know me, ’cause you’re dead wrong”. What Kelly Clarkson is singing in this song is what you are feeling while going through a breakup which is why it is such a great song to listen to.

Irreplaceable by Beyonce

Listening to Beyonce makes everyone feel better and if you are going through a breakup then Beyonce will surely make you feel better and help speed up the healing process. Not only is the song, “Irreplaceable” by Beyonce a throwback but it is a great Beyonce song to listen to while you are hurting. You are an amazing person who cannot be replaced however your ex can in fact be replaced by someone better. Beyonce sang it herself, “So don’t you ever for a second get to thinking you’re irreplaceable”. That person is very much replaceable and do not shed a tear for that person because you did not lose anything. Your ex might think you are missing them but you are not and tell them, “Baby I won’t shed a tear for you. I won’t lose a wink of sleep”.

Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood

If your ex cheated on you or even if they did not cheat on you I really recommend jamming out to this Carrie Underwood song. “Before He Cheats” is another throwback song and is one where you and your friends can turn the volume way up high and just start singing as loud as you can. My ex did not cheat on me but when I hear this song I really want to dig “my key into the side of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive. Carved my name into his leather seats”. Now, I do not recommend actually slashing your ex’s tires but instead let all your hurt and anger out through listening to this song and maybe even watch this music video for this song and imagine you are slashing his tires. Go listen to this song and sing, “Maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats”.

Lose You to Love Me by Selena Gomez

I am finishing this list with a song that everyone, no matter if the breakup was messy or not, should listen to this song. The song “Lose You to Love Me” by Selena Gomez is a good song to listen to while going through a breakup because it helps to see why breaking up with that person is in fact a good thing. While you were in a relationship you were only focused on your relationship with that person and forget about the relationship with yourself. Listen to the lyric, “I needed to hate you to love me”. This song is a very powerful song and if you are sitting in your bed reflecting on your relationship then I suggest listening to this song as well. If you could relate to the first lyric of the song, “You promised the world and I fell for it. I put you first and you adored it” then you are better off without your ex.
