Written by Danielle Batalla

Online classes can be convenient. It helps you manage your work-study schedule, gives you the extra space to take another class without actually showing up, and it gives you more flexibility in your personal life. However, online classes can be hard to manage. Having no one there to remind you of your deadlines and your class policies can be stressful. Also, the likelihood of procrastination is even greater. If you’re worried about losing track of your online classes, don’t worry! Here are five tips to stay afloat:

1. Always Check Your CSUF Email

Professors often communicate through email about what you will all be learning every week. It’s important to keep tabs on your email in case of any changes or any reminders about upcoming due dates! You never know when a change in the online class structure will happen and affect your current workflow.

2. Beware of Deadlines

Keeping track of your deadlines is key to doing well in your online classes. With no one there to tell you when something is due, it is up to you to check your syllabi and write those deadlines down. We suggest putting these deadlines into your calendar or writing them on a sticky note to put it in a place where you can always see it!

3. Designate Times for Schoolwork

Designating certain days or times of the week to doing school work helps because it gives you a sense of control over how you determine your own schedule. Also, having a set schedule helps to plan other important events such as work, personal time, etc.

4. Take Breaks

Going to online classes all day or night can be exhausting. Make sure to take a break every once in a while and have a snack, drink some water, or step outside for some fresh air before you continue. Expending lots of energy for long periods of time can lead to burnout and stress, so be sure to watch out and not overwork yourself!

5. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help

For those navigating the terrains of “online classes” for the first time, it is pretty easy to get lost in your work and what the course expects of you. Don’t be afraid to ask your classmates for help or clarification if you are struggling with juggling multiple online classes.
